Intestinal hyperpermeability refers to a recent theory of alternative medicine which speaks of "permeable intestine" or "sieve intestine". It is said to be a damage to the lining of the small intestine causing nutrients, bacteria and toxic waste to leak from the intestine into the bloodstream. Possible causes are alcohol, refined sugars, pesticides, heavy metals, dyes, preservatives, stress, antibiotics, unbalanced diet... This phenomenon may be linked to autoimmune pathologies or IBD, allergies, digestive problems after prolonged efforts.
